Why Stetleaf exists
Research projects are a common part of clinical training. Reporting guidelines such as CONSORT 2025 list what a paper should include, but they're dense, and the reasons behind each item aren't always obvious.
Stetleaf Academy explains those items one at a time, in plain language: what to report, why reviewers ask for it, and how to write it. The lessons are free.
We're also building Stetleaf, a tool that will check manuscripts against reporting guidelines before you submit. It's a check you run yourself to help get your manuscript ready for peer review. It doesn't replace peer review, your reviewers or editors, or your advisor and committee.
What Stetleaf will check, and what it won't
Its first version will check selected items of the CONSORT 2025 reporting guideline, plus two general checks: whether the usual section headings, such as Introduction, Methods and Results, are there, and whether each numbered citation in the text matches an entry in the reference list. Each report will list the checks it ran. It won't check theses or dissertations, and it is not peer review.
Stetleaf currently checks papers written in English.

How we make our lessons
Stetleaf Academy is founded and led by Alex Juusela, MD, MPH, FACOG. We use AI tools to help draft, edit, summarize and check some materials. Alex directs what is published and is responsible for the Academy's content. A lesson or article carries his personal byline only when he has reviewed it. Any AI-generated images are labeled where they appear.
Before we publish, we check numbers, methods claims and citations against their original sources, but mistakes happen. We correct mistakes openly (corrections policy).
A note on Stetleaf
Our financial interest. Alex Juusela owns Stetleaf LLC, the company that runs Stetleaf Academy and is developing Stetleaf. Lessons may link to Stetleaf's waitlist, and he benefits if you sign up.
The lessons stand on their own: you don't need Stetleaf to use them, and they never assume you will.
What we don't do
- We don't give medical advice or advice about any patient.
- We don't offer CME, CE, MOC or academic credit.
- We don't use real patient cases. Examples come from openly licensed published papers or made-up (synthetic) data, and are labeled.
- We don't promise publication, funding or exam results.
Stetleaf and Stetleaf Academy are not affiliated with, reviewed by or endorsed by any reporting-guideline group or the EQUATOR Network, or any journal.
